How to Remove Red Wine from the Carpet

Holidays are about celebrations and social gatherings, so is wine. Wine is made for entertaining, enhancing and enjoyment, but one simple slip and next thing you know your carpet is soaking up a delectable bouquet of your favorite crimson vino. No need crying over spilled wine (that is unless you really love wine). Follow these simple steps and knock out that red wine stain before it becomes a permanent resident on your home’s carpet.

Note: Before removing any stain on your own make certain your carpet does not have any special cleaning requirements, such is the case with carpets made from natural materials or those containing special dyes. In the event you are unsure don’t hesitate to contact a professional carpet cleaner.

First, as soon as the wine hits the carpet grab a clean towel and begin to blot the stain. This is stain removal 101. Remove as much of the stain as you can without scrubbing. Scrubbing only grinds a stain into the carpet.

After you have soaked up as much you can there are a couple of handy items you may have just sitting around the home that will help you get rid of that stain. Before you begin application of any stain removal product or household item, test the remedy on a small patch of undamaged carpet.

  • Club Soda: This bubbly concoction is great for cleaning most any stain. It works on the same principles of our Hot Carbon Extraction method. The bubbles help breakup the stain and the higher levels of acidity give it deeper stain penetrating power

For tough stains such as red wine, consider calling your local Chem-Dry carpet cleaning expert.  Using an arsenal of safe and effective stain removal products with the most innovative equipment, Chem-Dry can knock tough stains out of carpets, rugs and upholstery for good.
